About Us
Sushi Garden was born in 2018.
Andrea Lio is from Le Castella (meaning “The Castle”), a small village in Calabria, Southern Italy.
He has been living in London for over 12 years, working in the food and retail industry.
Work, persistence and dedication are the qualities that led Andrea to open the first Sushi Garden – Le Castella in 2018.
It quickly became a summer spot for tourists and locals alike.
Marco Pittella is from Isola di Capo Rizzuto, another small town in Calabria.
He has been living in London for 18 years. His passion for food, fine wine and adventure has taken him around the world,
including travels to Kyoto, Tokyo and Osaka, where he fell in love with Japanese cuisine, gardens and culture.
Andrea and Marco have been friends since their teenage years. Both dreamed of owning a business in the city they love.
After months of searching, viewing shops and making countless calls, they found the perfect spot in Forest Hill.
With hard work and dedication, they transformed what was once a coffee shop into today’s charming Sushi Garden – London.
Their combined skills and passion for food inspired Whakil Mahmud to join as Head Chef.
With a college education and an artistic passion for sushi, Whakil trained extensively and is now a certified Head Sushi Chef.
Sushi Garden – London officially opened its doors on May 18, 2019.
Andrea and Marco are grateful to their wives, Rocio and Anette, for their support and encouragement.
To our friends and customers, thank you for joining us on this journey.
We look forward to welcoming you again and sharing our love for sushi.
Cheers & welcome to Sushi Garden – London!
